Do You Have Sensitive Teeth?

Do you ever get a sudden, sharp pain when you eat or drink something hot or cold? Or maybe you’ve noticed a twinge when you breathe in cold air? If so, you might be dealing with sensitive teeth — a common issue that can make everyday things like eating and drinking quite uncomfortable.

Tooth sensitivity often happens when the gums begin to recede or when the protective enamel on your teeth starts to wear away. This can expose the softer layer underneath, called dentin, which leads directly to the nerve inside the tooth. When this area is exposed, it can make your teeth much more reactive to changes in temperature, sweetness or even pressure.

Brushing too hard, not brushing regularly, or using a hard-bristled toothbrush can all contribute to enamel wear and gum recession. In some cases, tooth grinding, acidic foods, or underlying dental issues can also make sensitivity worse.

If you’re finding that tooth sensitivity is becoming a regular problem, it’s worth speaking to your dentist. We can identify the cause and suggest treatments or changes to your routine to help ease the discomfort.

If your teeth are feeling sensitive, contact us today and book an appointment — we’re here to help.
