Inlays - Onlays

Dental inlays and onlays are alternatives to traditional fillings, used to restore teeth with cavities or damage.

  • Inlays are custom-made fillings that fit neatly into the cavity of a tooth and are then cemented into place.
  • Onlays work in a similar way but cover a larger area, extending to replace one or more cusps of the tooth. They’re often used when the damage is too extensive for a filling but doesn’t require a full crown.

Inlays and onlays are stronger than standard fillings and, in some cases, can be used instead of crowns. They also come in a range of materials — including porcelain, gold, and composite — allowing for a close colour match to your natural teeth, as well as improved strength.

The treatment usually takes two visits: at the first appointment, your dentist will remove any decay and take an impression of the tooth. At the second, your inlay or onlay will be carefully fitted and bonded in place. At Mastrick Smile Care, we take great care with every inlay and onlay treatment to ensure a strong, natural-looking result that lasts.
